It was said to have been first discovered by Henry How in the year 1864. He gave it the name Mordenite after the small community of Mordern Scotia Nova Canada, which was located along the Bay of Fundy, the place where it had been first found. Mordenite is formed in the cavities and veins of igneous rocks but can also occur as a product of hydration due to natural glasses.
